Through the “Vision of Aomori” program, we have introduced Aomori-related artists who would be the cultural torchbearers. In this 18th exhibition, we introduce Nishikawa©︎(chomo)Tomomi, designer and artist from Hachinohe City, Aomori Prefecture, who has been increasing the range of her activities. She created works characterized by humorous motifs drawn by Bezier curves. Her recent large-sized works made of wooden panels look cute at a glance, but they also look like miniaturization of the contemporary society where the sacred and the profane are jumbled together. Regrettably she passed away in 2021. We will show her new work of tapestry with the motif of a demon which she planned for this exhibition. In this exhibition, which is her first show in Aomori, we welcome visitors with “sweet demons” which are the same with the demon of Tsugaru according to the artist.
