We are pleased to host a talk event and workshop by the Daido bro, a photographer duo based in the Kansai region.

DAIDO Yūki and DAIDO Kōki each pursue their own artistic practices, but together they have also produced numerous photobooks and held exhibitions as the Daido bro. Their creative process involves selecting, blending, and weaving together their individually taken photographs—not through words, but through an image-based dialogue. So far, they have produced over 60 books.

These books, however, differ from what we usually imagine as “books.” Rather than widely distributed publications, most are one-of-a-kind handmade works created with a strong DIY spirit. Encountering the Daido bro’s practice invites us to reflect on the fundamental act of turning photographs into books, and the expressive potential that emerges from a dynamic collaboration between two individuals.

During the talk, we will look back on over a decade of their practice, surrounded by actual handmade photobooks, and hear from the brothers about the process of making books, expressing themselves as a unit, and the broader perspectives that have grown from that experience—together with audience members.

In the workshop, participants will work collaboratively with the Daido bro to each create a handmade book. We also hope this will be an opportunity to reflect on what to do with the book after it’s made.
