Born in Tokyo in 1953. Tsuji holds a master’s degree from the Graduate School of Art and Design, Tama Art University. She exhibits installation pieces both in Japan and overseas based on fieldwork conducted in forests, deserts, and near water, using dyed threads to examine her relationship with the natural world. In 2001, she began creating three-dimensional artworks for outdoor spaces. In Aomori, she has conducted fieldwork and created installations in locations such as the Hakkoda Mountains and the Komakino archaeological site; in 2005, she created the outdoor sculpture “AOMORI – Circle” at ACAC. Her major projects include the exhibition “Red like the spring water” (2014; Gallery A4, Tokyo), fieldwork and an installation at a Middle Jomon Period excavation site in Takenomori, Takahata Town (2017; Yamagata), an installation in a lava field near the Kilauea volcano (2012; Hawaii), and an installation at the Oshoro stone circle (2010; Hokkaido). She has also dabbled in works combining video and audio, among them “Tamafuri [revitalizing the soul],” created using sounds and visuals recorded in the Hinata, Ichinosawa, and Hibakoiwa Jomon Period cave dwellings in the aforementioned Takahata Town (compiled in 2018).
