アーティスト・イン・レジデンス プログラム2021 “invisible connections” で滞在制作を行っている、アーティスト・北條知子の新作《Unearthed Tremor｜掘りだされた震え》を展示する個展を開催します。

会期：2021年11月20日（土）〜12月5日（日）10:00〜18:00 ※会期中無休、入場無料
会場：国際芸術センター青森 [ACAC] 展示棟ギャラリーA

本展では、約 3000 年前に作られ現存する世界最古の弦楽器や、自然によって作られる音が共鳴・共振する場のリサーチを通して、青森に住んだ祖先によって奏でられ、現在は音楽史の外にある楽器の音を、現代的な視点で再創造することを試みる。

    HOJO Tomoko

    愛知生まれ。東京藝術大学大学院音楽研究科芸術環境創造領域、ロンドン芸術大学 ロンドン・カレッジ・オブ・コミュニケーション MA サウンド・アーツ修了。実験音楽とサウンドアートを軸に、リサーチを通した領域横断的な作品制作を行う。近年は歴史／アーカイブの中で沈黙させられてきた声に焦点を当て、その背景を探るとともに、記録されていないことを想像し再創造することに取り組んでいる。主な活動に、2021年「Music From Japan Festival 2021」での作曲家個展（スカンジナビア・ハウス、アメリカ）、2020年サウンドインスタレーション「気配」（さいたま国際芸術祭、埼玉）など。スイス出身の音楽家、アーティストのラヘル・クラフトと「Hojo＋Kraft」としても活動。

Hojo Tomoko’s work during her residency was based on research on the “Jomon koto” harp, a spatula-shaped wooden object excavated at the Korekawa Nakai Saito in Hachinohe City, Aomori Prefecture. The object is believed to be the oldest surviving string instrument in the world, but the way it was played or strung, or the locations or situations in which it was played, remain unknown. What the artist attempted was to recreate the harp, and to play it in a place with a similar geological condition to the stratum where the harp that remained in the ground for 3,000 years, so to allow its notes to be amplified within the natural resonances of the place, thus unearthing the sounds that have been buried in history.
This exhibition is composed of an 8.1 channel sound installation and a video work that make use of the peculiar reverberations and form of Gallery A.

  • HOJO Tomoko

    Born in Aichi, Japan​, HOJO graduated from the Graduate School of Music, Tokyo University of the Arts, and the London College of Communication, MA Sound Arts. With experimental music and sound art at the core of her practice, she creates cross-disciplinary works through research. In recent years, she has focused on voices that have been silenced in history/archives, exploring their backgrounds, and imagining and re-creating what has not been recorded. Major activities include her solo exhibition as a composer at “Music From Japan Festival 2021” (Scandinavia House, USA), and the sound installation Whiff (Saitama Triennale 2020, Saitama) in 2020. She also works as “Hojo+Kraft” with Rahel KRAFT, a musician and artist from Switzerland.
