Mihara was born in Tokyo, Japan in 1980. Based in Kyoto. He creates open systems engaged with the world that employ a wide range of materials and phenomena such as acoustics, foams, radiation, rainbows, microbes, moss, air streams, soil, humidity and electrons in order to reinterpret them as art. Since 2011, he has been involved in the Blank Project, which examines the relationship between technology and society, both in Japan and overseas. Since 2013, he has been participating in a series of artist-in-residencies in 18 locations in 9 countries, from the Arctic Circle to tropical rainforests, from military borders to bio-art labs, from the center of art to extreme environments. He has won awards including at Ars Electronica, Transmediale, and the Japan Media Arts Festival, and was on the jury of the Prix Ars Electronica in 2019. Since 2022, he has co-organized the event “Ride the Waves on March 11th”. In recent years, he has also been involved in conservation and restoration of sound art and media art for which methodologies have not yet been established.

Nicola Di Croce is an architect, musician, sound artist, and scholar. He has a PhD in Regional planning and public policies, and he’s currently Postdoctoral research fellow at Iuav University of Venice, Italy. His research deals with the relationship between Urban Studies and Sound Studies. In particular, he’s interested in collaborative and participatory approach to urban policy analysis and design through methodologies emerging within Urban Planning, Urban Sociology and Sound Art practice. Sound is central to Di Croce’s artistic and academic practice, as he intends critical listening a pivotal tool for the investigation of urban and cultural transformations aecting particularly vulnerable areas, such as depopulation, segregation and loss of local identities. Through articles, lectures, compositions, performances, and installations Di Croce aims to foster sonic awareness and to empower institutions and local communities, exploring new potentials for urban regeneration, participatory processes and local development.

Umezawa was born in Gunma, Japan in 1986. He got MFA from the Graduate School of Fine Arts at Tokyo University of the Arts. His work uses sounds and photos, based on his interest in prelinguistic sensory that one may feel from the surrounding environment, and also based on his curiosity towards the complexity of natural phenomena. His latest work was exhibited in Thailand Biennale Korat (2021), Audiosphere | Museo Reina Sofía(Madrid, Spain, 2020), Mist from Artificial Lake(NADiff Window Gallery, Tokyo, Japan, 2022), The Yebisu International Festival for Art & Alternative Visions (2023). He received grants for overseas study by young artists from Pola Art Foundation (Paris, France).

Philip Samartzis is a sound artist with a specific interest in the social and environmental conditions informing remote wilderness regions. His practice is based on deep fieldwork where he deploys complex sound recording technology to capture natural, anthropogenic and geophysical forces. He is associate professor in Sculpture, Sound and Spatial Practice and teaches Sound Cultures in the Bachelor of Arts (Fine Art) program at RMIT (Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology). He is also artistic director of Bogong Centre for Sound Culture in the Australian Alps.

Fernando Godoy is an electronics engineer, sound artist and producer who lives and works in Valparaíso, Chile. He uses diverse media to research sound as a social and natural phenomena, and is interested in the relationship between aural experience and territory. His practice includes field recordings, DIY technologies, electronics, sound installations, sound performances, radio works, web projects and experimental composition. Working also as a producer, he has been the director of the Tsonami Sound Art Festival since 2008, a platform for the diffusion and development of contemporary sound practices in Chile.

Daniela d’Arielli is a multidisciplinary artist based in Italy working in painting, photography and installation. Her research focuses on nature and reality, distortion and alteration, remembrance and memory investigated through the element water. In 2015, she earned a specialization in photography from IED in Rome. She is currently professor of “Design of Color” at the ISIA Pescara Design. Since 2008 Daniela has worked as a photographer and art producer for Pollinaria, an organic farm and research organisation cultivating innovative, integrated work in the fields of art, agriculture and ecology located in Abruzzo, Italy.
