松本美枝子は、身近な人の姿を通して、社会の風景やそれに揺り動かされる存在を表現してきました。近年では、土地の地質的・歴史的背景を読み解きながら、そのリサーチで出会った人たちの個人史まで内包したインスタレーション作品を展開しています。また、リサーチを異なるバックグラウンドを持つ人たちと共有し作品制作を行い、その過程をテキストやトークなどで公開・アーカイブするまでのプロジェクトも行っています。
この度ACACでは、松本美枝子を迎え、2021年5月から2022年度に開催予定の展覧会までの長期レジデンスプログラムを開催します。青森での滞在制作は、断続的に行われ、地質学のリサーチを中心に青森の土地や歴史を再考していきます。延べ3か月間、長期的・分散的な滞在制作を通して、積み上げられるリサーチと出会う人との関係性が創作の深化に反映され、積層される様子も楽しみにしていただけたら幸いです。

    MATSUMOTO Mieko　

    写真家・美術家。1974年茨城生まれ。茨城とリオデジャネイロを拠点に活動。写真や映像、光、音、テクスト、パフォーマンスなど、さまざまなテクノロジーとメディアを横断しながら 、 知覚のあり方を問い直す試みを続ける。近年は自然環境と社会構造の関係についてリサーチを重ねて、地層、歴史、人間の移動などをテーマとした作品を制作する。並行して南米やヨーロッパでも撮影を行い、インスタントカメラ（instax）を用いた最新作では、風景の中にとどまる光を写しとるシリーズを展開している。
    主な展示に、個展「具（つぶさ）にみる」（国際芸術センター青森、2022年）、トーキョーアーツアンドスペースレジデンス2024 成果発表展「微粒子の呼吸」（トーキョーアーツアンドスペース本郷、2024年）。写真集に、写真詩集『生きる』（詩・谷川俊太郎、写真・松本美枝子）などがある。

In her work, Matsumoto has long expressed the social landscape and those affected by it through the figures of the people closest to her. In recent years, she has made installations that decipher the geological and historical backgrounds of different areas and encompass the personal histories of people she meets during her research. She conducts her research together with people from different backgrounds, publishing and archiving the process in the form of texts and talks.
The Aomori Contemporary Art Centre (ACAC) is pleased to welcome Mieko Matsumoto for a long-term residency program from May 2021 until the Spring 2022 exhibition. Her extended residency in Aomori will be conducted over a decentralized, intermittent three-month period and will focus on geological research that reexamines the land and history of Aomori The audience can look forward to seeing how her creative practice reflects layers of research and the relationships she forms with local residents throughout this long-term residency.

  • MATSUMOTO Mieko　

    Photographer and artist. Born in 1974 in Ibaraki, Japan. Based between Ibaraki and Rio de Janeiro. Working across photography, video, light, sound, text, and performance, she explores and reexamines the conditions of perception through a diverse range of technologies and media. In recent years, her research has focused on the relationship between natural environments and social structures, producing works that take geological strata, history, and human migration as their themes. She also continues to photograph in South America and Europe, and in her latest series—shot with an instax instant camera—she captures the traces of light that linger within landscapes.

    Major exhibitions include the solo exhibition “Look Exhaustively ” (Aomori Contemporary Art Centre, 2022) and the TOKAS Creator-in-Residence 2024 Exhibition “Breathing Particles” (Tokyo Arts and Space Hongo, 2024). Her publications include the photo-poetry book TO LIVE (poems by TANIKAWA Shuntaro, photographs by MATSUMOTO Mieko).
