The work of Palestinian-Canadian artist ABBOUD bridges various mediums, and is inspired by water, folklore, and storytelling to express themes of longing and forced erasure of cultural heritage across the world. She is currently based between Jerusalem and London.

Born in 1968, Aono continues to live and work in his hometown of Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture. Creating artworks on the subject of restoration, he collects debris from abandoned lots and beaches, and uses various methods to “repair” the items after examining the damage and analyzing their usage histories.

A Tokyo-native, Iwane moved to California as a teenager to study at Petrolia High School. She travels between Tokyo and Miharu in Fukushima Prefecture presenting her work. Drawing from intensive fieldwork, such as her exploration of the connection between Hawaii and Fukushima that is embodied by immigrants, Iwane’s photography captures the lives of people rooted in the land.

Born in 1986 in Hiroshima’s Kure City, Koretsune took inspiration from the hunting and folkcraft of Alaskan natives for her earlier works. Her recent project centers around the research on whale hunting, fishing, and maritime folk culture, for which she utilizes fieldwork and interviews to create print-work like zine s, embroidery, and sculpture.

Born in 1934 in Aomori City, Kudo moved from his childhood home in Mizusawa, Iwate to Ehime Prefecture in 1957, and began working at the Baizan-gama pottery. Later in his life, he created the arabesque design, the pattern now known as the signature of Tobeyaki-ware. Kudo opened Shunju-pottery workshop in 1974. He passed away in 2019.

Born in 1990 in Aichi Prefecture, Mitsuoka is currently based in Tokyo. His creative approach is built upon architectural concepts, which he fuses with playful elements. Mitsuoka engages in dialogue with cities and communities, and creates artworks based on his experiences and involvement.

Born in 1982 in Aomori’s Hirakawa City (formerly called Hiraka-machi), Nakajima spent a few years in Sapporo before returning to his hometown where he currently juggles his work as an artist, caregiver, and assistant worker at an apple farm. Through his artwork, he aims to open himself to the transitions or traces of various topologies that exist in this universe, thereby preserving the memories of these experiences.

A photo-journalist, Sawada Kyoichi was born in 1936 in Aomori City. His “Flee to Safety”, which documents a scene from the Vietnam War, won the grand prix in the 9th Hague World Photo-journalism Exhibition, as well as the 1966 Pulitzer Prize for Photography. In 1970, Sawada was shot and killed during a photoshoot in Cambodia.

Born in 1919 in Aomori City, Suzuki served in the army, fighting in the front line in China during World War II. This experience prompted him to become a painter after he returned from the war. Throughout his artistic career, Suzuki completed many paintings and sculptures that reflected his hope for peace, as well as his humorous personality. Suzuki passed away in 2008.

Born in 1990 in Tokorozawa City, Saitama Prefecture, and grew up in Yokohama City, Kanagawa Prefecture. To create spaces situation in which people meet and think together, he incorporate various approaches such as touring performance that are based on architectural thought.
